Dance as part of treatment

Dance for Health's method is not only used for young people in groups.
Here Jessica Ternström, physiotherapist Region Stockholm, tells how she introduced Dance for Health in her work with a patient, a woman in her 50s with previous exhaustion and 100% sick leave. Problem picture depression, anxiety, sleep disorder, migrating pain.

'Last fall training in the pool at the clinic. Individual treatment with basic exercises, deep breathing and thorn ball massage. Last winter and this spring we also started dancing, individually. What a tool I've been given!
The patient has done much better in the last six months; she is working full time. Does not have so much pain in her body except for migraines sometimes. Less anxiety. Sleeps well.
About the dance she says: "gets an increased contact with her body that she otherwise shuts off".
During and after the dance she feels "stronger in her body even though she usually doubts her body".
"It's bubbling and bubbling in her body, it's hard, but it doesn't matter because it's fun".
"Happy in her body. Such lovely words!

Thank you Jessica for sharing!
That dance can be one of the tools in physiotherapy treatment work and provide strength and joy is inspiring.
Important with physical activity and body awareness, and great that you have found a way through undemanding dance. Good luck in the future - and we hope more patients can experience that it is "bubbling and bubbling" in the body!
